Trimanganese Tetroxide

Description:

Trimanganese trioxide is non-combustible but decomposes, generating toxic fumes when strongly heated strongly in the air. A good oxidizing agent. Reacts with hydrochloric acid to form gaseous chlorine and soluble manganese salts.

Application:

Mn3O4 is sometimes used as a starting material in the production of soft ferrites e.g. manganese zinc ferrite, and lithium manganese oxide, used in lithium batteries.

Trimanganese trioxide can also be used as a weighting agent while drilling reservoir sections in oil and gas wells.
